Niyati Brown suggest State HSTA-R make award for Best Internet Website

May 15, 2011

Editors Note:  Niyati Brown made a motion at our March 29, 2011 council meeting that the state HSTA-R board of directors consider having an additional award for best web site design and content.  Below is an open letter written to Justin Wong and the state HSTA-R Board of Directors and signed by our secretary, Avis Mortemore, on behalf of our Hawai’i Island Council.

HSTA-R Board of Directors

Mr. Justin Wong, President , HSTA-R  Board of Directors

1200 Ala Kapuna Stree    Honolulu,  HI  96819

Aloha Board of Directors for HSTA-R,

First, let me tell you how much we enjoyed seeing the awards presented at the Annual Delegate Assembly during our last meeting in Honolulu a few weeks ago.

The entire award process instills pride in everyone present and acknowledges the hard work that each district does on behalf of their membership. It is nice to be recognized for your efforts on behalf of others. I hope the awards continue and can be expanded to include a new category – that of web site design and content.

The Hawaii Island District Council has voted unanimously to propose one more category of awards “Best Internet Website”.  We feel that such a category would encourage individual districts and clubs to move forward with technology for the benefit of their members.  This is at no cost to the state organization budget. It might even be cost savings as it will allow direct communication with our members without the expense of mailings.

A vast majority of today’s retiring teachers are more computer literate and rely on the social media for information.

Web sites for each of our four districts should be encouraged through an award category beginning in 2012 in order to bring together the membership and make communicating important issues easier.

Let us move forward and encourage each district to step into the 21st Century by having an award for best web site design and content.   Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

Sincerely,

HSTA-R Hawai’i District Council

Avis Mortemore, Secretary

    I agree with this.
I love being able to read about issues that deal with retirees on the computer.
Also, love the photos and personal stories by our fellow retirees.
    Thank you,
    Amy
