Advice from Steve Ono on the HSTA VEBA LTC plan

May 12, 2011

Below is the advice from HSTA-R representative Steve Ono on the HSTA Voluntary Employees Beneficiary Association Trust letter that most of us received in the mail recently.   I had recently received a letter from HSTA Member Benefit Trust regarding my participation in the Long Term Care Insurance Program. If you received a similar letter, I urge you to follow up with a response. The receipt of this letter indicates a question of your participation in the Member Benefits program and your lack of response may affect the subsidized portion of the Long Term Care Program.I urge you to call the Member Benefits office, should you have any questions.  Its number is: 1-800-637-4926.   The deadline for enrollment eligibility is May 27th, 2011.

RE: VEBA Long Term Care for HSTA retirees:

Steve Ono mentions a letter we HSTA Retirees received recently, to which he recommends we reply. I do not recall receiving such a letter.

REQUEST: Will someone be so kind as to either:
    1) Send me a copy of said letter to PO Box 90, Ookala, HI 96774; or
    2) Send a copy of same to; or
    3) Send information on how to locate such a letter on the internet?

Thank you so very much for you kind assistance.

    In Appreciation, Sharon Lehman

      Aloha Sharon,
You need to call them directly at 1-800-637-4926 and ask those questions about not receiving the letter because you may or may not be in the VEBA Long Term Care program. Only they can answer your questions and help you in this area.

I am in the Long Term Care Program and I didn’t receive a letter. I will phone the Member Benefits Office tomorrow. Thanks for informing me of it.
I attended the “Blessing” of our HSTA new office in Kona on Wednesday. It was a beautiful Blessing. It was nice to see the HSTA State President at the blessing as well as some other Big Island Chapter presidents. It’s a beautiful office. I highly recommend that teachers go out and visit it. Toni Symons will definitely welcome you.
