Participants and Volunteers Needed at Veterans Day 5K Event

November 1, 2010
Show your support on Veteran’s Day

Coming up on Thursday, Nov. 11, is Big Dog’s Veterans Day 5K run or walk starting at 7:30 am from the parking area of Coconut Island.

Retirees are asked to come out and participate in a morning of exercise by doing a 3 mile walk with HSTA-R President, Wayne “Big Dog” Joseph.

We are putting out a challenge to all unions to come out and show their support for our troops, both past and present, so wear your HSTA shirts!

Entry fee is a canned good to be donated to the Hawaii Island Food Basket and according to the Food Basket Director/Labor Liaison, Alton Nosaka, the Food Basket is in need of fruit and vegetable canned goods.

Post race refreshments will be provided by Jerry Chang and Vidration sports drinks provided by Keith Aoki of Anheuser-Busch, while supplies last.

Bananas donated by Richard Ha
Papayas donated by Danny Molina
Bottled water donated by Paradise Beverage

For more information on the Vet Day event call 969-7400 or go email the big dog at waiakeabigdog@aol.com

If you don’t feel like walking three miles then you can still come out and volunteer as we will need help cutting fruit and doing some other tasks.
