HSTA Endorses Abercrombie for Governor

August 9, 2010

Neil Abercrombie wins HSTA endorsement

Our union, the Hawaii State Teachers Association, today announced it has endorsed former U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie for Hawaii governor.

The union represents 13,000 public school teachers in the state.

“We believe Neil Abercrombie has been a champion of public education and as governor, he will give education the priority needed to benefit our keiki and Hawaii’s future,” HSTA President Wil Okabe said.

It is the second education-based group endorsement Abercrombie received. The University of Hawaii Professional Assembly gave the former lawmaker its endorsement earlier.

“It means the people who we entrust with the education of our young people — Hawaii’s most precious resources — have put their faith and trust in me,” Abercrombie said.

Abercrombie will face former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann in the Democratic primary on Sept. 18.
