President Lorraine Hora Gives Her final Message!

May 30, 2010
Lorraine Hora

Mahalo!  My eight years of serving as your Hawaii District President is ending. We have an enthusiastic new leadership team ready to continue our organization’s goals to keepabreast of changes occurring within the State that affect our retirement and health benefits, and to promote retiree knowledge and involvement in social and political activities for personal growth. Many of you participated in our District activities by attending and/or donating your time, money and needed items over the years. Please continue participating in our activities and supporting our new leaders

  – President – Wayne Joseph, Vice President – Marlyn Akiona, Secretary – Avis Mortemore, and Treasurer – Lois Shimizu.

Hawaii District is strong because of you, our members. Our State still is not economically stable. Our Legislature and our Governor remain at odds with each other over how and how much can be spent on many issues and programs affecting retirees.

Some changes will occur beginning January 1, 2011. This is an election year. Who we elect can make a difference. Please be sure to register to vote and VOTE in both elections. Absentee ballots are easily obtainable. Any retiree who is interested in participating in HSTA’s endorsement interview process should contact me ASAP at 935-0761 or email

Interview training is scheduled for July 17 with interviews occurring on July 31 in all chapters – Hilo, Hamakua, Kohala, Kona. We would like to have at least one retiree participant in each chapter. Please let me hear from you. I will remain on the District Council as Past President. You can still contact me when you have any questions or concerns. Have a most enjoyable summer!
