Muriel “Teeny” Nishimoto

Nishimoto retired  “happily” in   June of 2008 after  completing 34 years of service with the D.O.E.

“I began teaching in Hilo in 1974 as a special education teacher and the last 8 years as a Student Services Coordinator at Chiefess Kapiolani Elementary School,” Nishimoto said. “I began teaching at Kapiolani for my first year; other schools I worked at were Kau High,  Kalanianaole Inter. and Keaukaha Elementary.

Nishimoto returned to the school where she began at years ago- making the full circle! 

“My retirement motto is Ha a’ wi Manawale’a-Give Gladly. I enjoy doing weekly volunteer work at Waiakea El, Chiefess Kapiolani, and New Hope Christian Fellowship.  I take ukulele classes at Kamana Center with by musical buddies. Retirement is great,” she said.
